Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a torrid period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term coach Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's first trophy following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since spring of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 various tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent reactions on court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and play positively, supported by an better service.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, took control to force a final set.

Moutet rescued four early-game chances in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
